Woodrow Wilson Bragg BRAGG

Woodrow Wilson "Doc" Bragg, 91, retired McMinnville businessman, died on February 18, 2006.  He was born on March 15, 1914 in Dibrell, TN to the late Ruby Foster Bragg and Thomas Perkins Bragg.  He was a businessman for over sixty-three years, having worked in the nursery business from 1932 until 1939, owned and operated the Western Auto Store from 1939 until 1956, owned and operated John Deere Farm Machinery dealership from 1947 until 1969, and an automobile dealership from 1948 until 1965.  In 1970 he went into the nursery business and started Cumberland Valley Nurseries, Inc., primarily growing peach trees;  and continued this until he retired in September 1995.  He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army from February 1944 until April 1946 with most of the time spent in France.  He served three terms on the board of Mayor and Aldermen; and was a member of the Central Church of Christ, Board of Education, VFW Post 5064, and American Legion.  He joined the Rotary Club in 1937 and was an active member for over 66 years and Past-President.  He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.  He was an avid fisherman, quail hunter, basketball player in his younger years, and in his later years a turkey hunter.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy King Bragg in 2003.  Survivors include one son, Thomas Perkins Bragg and daughter-in-law, Janice Hodges Bragg of Scottsboro, AL;  two sisters, Mary Perkins Bragg Hillis of Kingsport, TN and Bettie Ruth Bragg Lemley of Tallahassee, FL;  three grandchildren, Michelle Hogan of Tampa, FL, Kristin LaBoon (John) of Austin, TX, and Edwin Bragg of New York, NY and three great-grandchildren, Heather Hogan, Harrison Hogan, and Laura LaBoon;  many nieces and nephews.  He was known as "Grandpa Doc" by his grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his sister Georgia Bragg Cordell;  half-brothers, Clarence L. Bragg, John Roy Bragg, Walter Ray Bragg, Thomas J. Bragg, Dixie Miller Bragg, David Nelson Foster, and Edward Carrol Foster;  half-sisters, Hassie Pearl Bragg, Carrie Georgia Bragg and Mary Elisabeth Bragg.  Active pallbearers will be Edwin Bragg, John A. Bragg, A.J. Winton, Floyd Hardcastle, Jim Finney, Ed Dement, Michael Dement, Stephen McDowell, John McCord, James McCord, and Bill McCord.  Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Bragg, Joy Bragg, Kenny Phillips, Jr., Kathern Winton, Patsy Hardcastle, Betty and Bill Lively, Jimmy Haley, McMinnville Rotary Club, and the elders and deacons of the Central Church of Christ.  Funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at Central Church of Christ at 2:00 p.m. with Tim Parish officiating.  Memorials may be sent to the Central Church of Christ Retirement Home Fund.
