Stella Mai BURKS

McMinnville resident and Overton County, TN native Stella Mai Burks, age 87, was born March 16, 1919 and died July 6, 2006 at her residence following an extended illness.  A homemaker and a member of the Central Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late Vernatus Bilbrey and Cordelia Davis Carmack.  She was married to Isaac Mitchell Burks who preceded her in death February 28, 2002.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Bruce Burks;  daughter, Delores Jill Barnes;  grandsons, Terry Lynn Burks, and Robbie and Bobbie Burks;  granddaughters, Rachael Lea Burks and Amy Estella Markum;  great-grandchildren, T.J. Burks and Chelsie Malia Smith;  sisters, Louray Carmack and Zella Curtis and brothers, Elmer, George, and Lester Carmack.  She is survived by ten children and their spouses, Kenneth Clark and Sue Burks of McMinnville, H.V. Burks of Spencer, TN, Eddie Raymond and Betty Burks of McMinnville, Nina Mai and David Hicks of Maryville, TN, Anna Sue and G.B. Watson of Dickson, TN, Judy Carol Capshaw, Teresa Dianne and Trent Campbell, Linda Darlene and Steve McGregor, Timothy Mitchell and Lisa Burks and Rickey Jason and Lisa Burks all of McMinnville;  twenty-four grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren and four sisters, Ruth Kennerly of Spencer, TN, Gertrude Krupa of McMinnville, Dorothy Cope of Spencer, TN and Bobby Hall of Nashville, TN.  Funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2006 in High's Chapel with Vernon Joines and Nestor Stewart officiating.  Burial followed in the Shockley Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN.
