U.S. ARMY, Sgt. John A. CARROLL

September 1, 1980 — September 6, 2006

Baumholder, Germany resident and West Virginia native Sgt. John A. Carroll, U.S. Army, age 26, was born September 1, 1980 and died September 6, 2006 in Iraq while serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom.  This was Sgt. Carroll's second deployment to Iraq.  His first tour was with the initial assault in 2003.  He was a member of Company B, 1st. Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment based in Baumholder, Germany.  He was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously and the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service.  He was the son of Dawn Petrakovits of Pennsylvania and Roger Carroll of Panama.  He was married October 27, 2005 to Jessica L. Hicks Carroll of Baumholder, Germany.  He and Jessica had plans to move to McMinnville in October of 2007 when his enlistment was completed.  In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two brothers, Micah Carroll of Hawaii and Ben Beardsley of Japan;  two sisters, Liz Carroll of Brooklyn, NY and Rebecca Petrakovits of Pennsylvania;  mother-in-law, Nancy Hicks and father-in-law, Jerry Hicks both of Florida.  A graveside service and interment was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 17, 2006 at Mt. View Cemetery with Major Gen. Pillsbury and friends officiating.  Full military honors were administered by the Fort Campbell Honor Guard.
