McMinnville resident and Jackson, Alabama native Morgan Cecil Hayes, age 71, was born January 14, 1935 and died May 1, 2006 at River Park Hospital following a sudden illness. A retired employee of Carrier and a member of the Church of Christ, he served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was the son of the late Oliver Stanton Hayes and Mary Lou Lawrence Hayes of McMinnville. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a son, David Hayes; daughter, Jimmie Sue Hayes and two brothers, Norman Junior and Paul Hayes. He was married December 20, 1994 to Edna Cox Hayes who survives. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Darrell Cunningham of Ft. Myers, FL; three grandchildren, Kyle Cunningham of Ft. Myers, FL and Kenneth and James Hayes of Morrison, TN; three step-sons, David and Daniel Holland of Morrison and Jacky Vickers of McMinnville; four step-grandchildren, Danielle Holland and Avery, Kaitlyn, and Bailey Vickers; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Louise and Danny Wanamaker of Grundy County, TN and Gracie Passons of McMinnville; several nieces and nephews and special friend, Sherry Holland of Morrison, TN. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2006 in High's Chapel with Nestor Stewart officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Zion Cemetery with full military honors administered by the American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064.
