McMinnville resident and Butler, Pennsylvania native William Edwin Hetrick, age 60, was born November 15, 1945 and died September 10, 2006 at his residence following an extended illness. He was the son of the late William Parker and Janet Katherine Hoyn Hetrick and was of the Catholic Faith. Following graduation from Butler High School in 1963, Mr. Hetrick enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was then assigned to the 1st Marine Division, where he served one year in Vietnam and one year on barracks duty in Sasebo, Japan. He attained the rank of Sergeant. From 1967, upon returning to the United States, he remained in touch with many of his Marine comrades until he passed away. He was most proud to have served his nation and was true to the Marine Corps motto "Semper Fidelis", always faithful. Mr. Hetrick was also a graduate of Butler County Community College and Dale Carnegie Course. His specialty was Electronics Engineering. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan also enjoying the New York Yankees since his childhood. His hobbies were military history and he was an enthusiastic collector of Zippo lighters and knives. He is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant William E. Hetrick, Jr. of Beaufort, South Carolina and Kurt R. and Tina Hetrick of Butler, Pennsylvania; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila R. and Christopher Simerly of McMinnville; five grandchildren, Skyler James Hetrick of Butler, Pennsylvania and Mary Katherine, Macey Claire, Kylie Alexis, and Chase Alexander Simerly all of McMinnville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Noreen L. and Richard Stevens of Boulder Creek, California and Sharon L. and Benjamin Tucci of Butler, Pennsylvania; several nieces, nephews, great-nephews, aunts, and former spouse, Dorothy J. Leard. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2006 in High's Chapel with Mark Carrigan officiating. Burial followed in the Shellsford Cemetery with military honors administered by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.
