McMinnville resident and Van Buren County, TN native Kathryn Hillis Jones, age 90, was born July 8, 1916 and died July 29, 2006 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following a sudden illness. She was a member of the Shellsford Baptist Church and a school teacher and librarian with the Smyrna, Georgia School System where she was the driving force behind developing the Smyrna, Georgia School System's Library, beginning in a one room school and expanding into a major metropolitan school library system. She was the daughter of the late Isaac Roswell and Ethel Kell Hillis and was married to Clarence Greston Jones who preceded her in death in 1988. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Debbie Jo Jones; sisters, Minnie Grissom and Robbie Hitchcock and brother, Doyle Hillis. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Woody and Joan Thompson Jones of Decatur, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Leon Van Hoosear of Miami, FL; four grandchildren, Eric, Lauren, Brad, and Reed Van Hoosear; two brothers, J.F. Hillis and Kelly Hillis both of McMinnville and two sisters, Rose Walker of McMinnville and Clara Barton Smith of West Palm Beach, FL. Funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2006 in High's Chapel with David Daugherty officiating. Burial followed in the Crain Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN.
