Mary Grissom ROWLAND

Rock Island, TN resident and Warren County native Mary Grissom Rowland, age 91, was born August 30, 1915 and died September 10, 2006 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN.  A retired school teacher with the Warren County School System and a member of Friendship The Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Phillip D. and Permelia Safley Grissom, Sr.  She was married April 6, 1940 to James Thomas Rowland who preceded her in death August 29, 1986.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, P.D. Grissom, Jr. and Thomas Clark Grissom;  sister, Velma Grissom Haston and great-grandson, Nicholas Locke.  She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy M. and Reva Rowland of Rock Island, TN and Phillip Murray and Vickie Rowland of McMinnville;  daughter and son-in-law, Dianne Rowland and John Cothran of Lebanon, TN;  grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Eddie and Lisa Rowland of Smithville, TN, Wesley and Sarah Cothran of Manchester, TN, and Micah and Joel Rowland of McMinnville;  granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Tina and Douglas Hutchins and Renea and David Talley both of Rock Island, TN;  great-grandchildren, Tyler Hutchins, Caleb Rowland, and Kapri Talley;  sister, Myra Gribble of Rock Island, TN and several nieces and nephews.  Funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2006 in High's Chapel with Steve Breedlove and Bryan Jones officiating.  Burial followed in the Mt.
