McMinnville resident and Warren County native Zelma Gladys Simmons, age 72, was born October 16, 1933 and died May 8, 2006 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following an extended illness. A retired employee of Magnetek and a member of the Blue Springs Cove Church of Christ, she was the daughter of Irene McGee Barnes of McMinnville and the late Alton Barnes. She was married March 17, 1951 to Arthur Litton Simmons, Jr. who preceded her in death November 3, 1993. In addition to her husband and father, she was preceded in death by a son, Alton Ray Simmons. In addition to her mother, she is survived by five children and their spouses, Mike and Brenda Simmons of Smartt, TN, Pam and Tommy Harris of McMinnville, Tony Simmons of McMinnville, Billy Simmons of McMinnville and Tara and James Barks of Beersheba Springs, TN; six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye and Joe Davenport of McMinnville and June and Phillip Gribble of Rock Island, TN and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2006 in High's Chapel with Gary Newby officiating. Burial followed in the Shellsford Cemetery.
