McMinnville resident and DeKalb County, TN native James Joseph Womack, age 84, was born November 1, 1921 and died April 22, 2006 at his residence following an extended illness. A retired supervisor at Rockford Textile Mills, a farmer, and a member of the Westwood Church of Christ, he served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was the son of the late John Hampton and Bessie Louvania Blankenship Womack. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Laura Elizabeth Womack and Cornelia Hammond; step-sister, Jean Ralph and step-father, Elton Mason. He was married January 1, 1941 to Tennie Eller Atnip Womack of McMinnville. In addition to his wife he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Larry R. and Helen Womack of Morrison, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Wayne Haston of McMinnville; two grandchildren, Matthew Lewis of Cookeville, TN and Rachel Womack of Morrison, TN; two brothers, John C. Womack and Herbert E. Womack both of McMinnville; three sisters, Beatrice Gossnell and Alma Adams both of McMinnville and Paulette Mingle of Gassaway, TN; two step-brothers, Kenneth and Billy Mason both of McMinnville; two step-sisters, Carolyn Turner and Decie Crouch both of McMinnville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2006 in High's Chapel with Harold Jones and Bob Deason officiating. Burial followed in the Gardens of Memory with full military honors administered by the American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064.
