Robert Avery BOYD

McMinnville resident and Van Buren County, TN native Robert Avery Boyd, age 85, was born February 17, 1922 and died July 7, 2007 at River Park Hospital following a lingering illness. A retired employee of Carrier, a United States Army veteran of WWII and a member of the Smyrna Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Elbern Zenus "Zene" and Oshia Lodema Jones Boyd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Aubrey Huston "Friday" Boyd. Mr. Boyd helped in the organization of the Fairview Community Center and the Collins River Fire Department. He was married August 19, 1944 to Bobbie Turner Boyd of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children and their spouses, Donald Avery and Linda Boyd of Beersheba Springs, TN, Ronald Douglas Boyd of McMinnville and Nancy Elizabeth Boyd and Tony Rhea of McMinnville; six grandchildren, Chris Boyd, Kim Fults, Angie Higgins, Jennifer Boyd, Marty Rhea and Megan Lockhart; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2007 in High's Chapel with Robert Jefferies and R.S. Rigney officiating. Burial followed in the Smyrna Cemetery with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.
