McMinnville resident and White County, TN native William "Dude" Cantrell, age 71, was born February 16, 1936 and died October 20, 2007 at Alvin C. York V.A. Medical Center in Murfreesboro, TN following an extended illness. A self-employed back hoe operator and a United States Navy veteran of Korea, he was the son of the late William Norman and Emma Kirby Cantrell, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Bessie Cantrell, Ellen Gibbs, Bernice Goodwin, Bertha Mae Taylor and Will Etta Stupak. He was married January 16, 1955 to Mary Etta Rollins Cantrell of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children and one son-in-law, Mickie Cantrell, Lori and Ricky Smith and Buddy Cantrell all of McMinnville; six grandchildren, T.C. Ward, Brittany Smith, Ally Smith, Cory Cantrell and Will Cantrell all of McMinnville and Shay Smith of Murfreesboro, TN; three great-grandchildren, Briar and Naudia Ward and Logan Earls; brother, J.C. Cantrell of Sparta, TN and special friends, Danny and Nadine Sain of McMinnville. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2007 in High's Chapel with Bobby Newby and Jerry Hudson officiating. Burial followed in the New Bonair Cemetery in White County, TN with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.
