McMinnville resident and Rutherford County, TN native Thomas Butler "Tommy" Carney, Jr., age 76, was born August 15, 1930 and died August 6, 2007 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following an extended illness. A retired partner and funeral director/embalmer at High Funeral Home, a United States Air Force Veteran of Korea and a member of the Central Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Thomas Butler and Frances Lassetter Carney, Sr. Mr. Carney was a longtime member of the McMinnville Silver and Gold Band where he played the bass drum and cymbal. He was married May 6, 1956 to Sandra Trail Carney of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Joey Grandey and Charlotte and Terry Vaughn both of McMinnville; five grandchildren, Lauren and Leah Grandey and Chelsea, Trevor, and Marcus Vaughn all of McMinnville and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Joy Trail of McMinnville. Funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2007 in High's Chapel with Tim Parrish officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the McMinnville Silver and Gold Band.
