McCormick, SC resident, formerly of McMinnville and Marion County, TN native Samuel Lucien Cordell, age 91, was born January 23, 1916 and died August 2, 2007 at Savannah Heights Living Center in McCormick, SC following an extended illness. The former owner of Grizzell's Jewelry, a United States Navy veteran of WWII and a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, he was the son of the late Lucien Hall and Sarah Frances Taliaferro Cordell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved firsts wife and mother of his children, Georgia Bragg Cordell and one brother, Charles E. Cordell. Sam was a member and past-president of the McMinnville Noon Rotary Club, Past 6780 District Governor of Rotary International and a multiple Paul Harris Fellow. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Sara Frances Cordell and James Ottery of Springfield, IL, Lucia Cordell Getsi and David Staniford of McCormick, SC and Elizabeth Ruth Cordell of Manchester, TN; son and daughter-in-law, John Wainsfield and Susan Cordell of Lawrenceville, GA; four grandchildren, Claire (Tracy) Cross of Austin, TX, Christopher Womack of Lafayette, IN, Manon Getsi of Tucson, AZ and Seth Cordell of Lawrenceville, GA; brother, Francis (Olivia) Cordell of South Pittsburg, TN; four great-grandchildren, Lucy and Anna Womack and Taylor and Sam Cross; wife, Mildred Fults McGinnis Cordell of McMinnville; three step-children, Judy (Ron) Harper of Murfreesboro, TN, Sandy (George) Paz of San Francisco, CA and Don McGinnis of Nashville, TN and niece, Virginia Roy Bragg of McMinnville. Funeral service was held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, August 6, 2007 in High's Chapel with Mark Carrigan officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. View Cemetery.
