Velma Jones DAVENPORT

McMinnville resident and Cannon County, TN native Velma Jones Davenport, age 66, was born April 19, 1940 and died April 12, 2007 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN following a short illness. A retired business teacher with the Warren County School System and a member of the Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church, she was the daughter of the late Laymon Ernest and Nellie Underhill Jones. She was married December 19, 1964 to James "Sonny" Davenport of McMinnville. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Jason Mellons of McMinnville; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Susan Davenport of Columbia, TN; three grandchildren, Alex and Mary Davenport of Columbia, TN and Ryan Mellons of McMinnville; brother and sister-in-law, Dudley and Sheryl Jones of Jacksonville, FL; niece, Shannon Cole of Trenton, KY and four sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and Walter M. Bishop of McMinnville, Joann and Earl Dove of Rock Island, TN, Lucille and Don Hayes of McMinnville and Fay and Joe Bryan Glenn of Madison, AL. Funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2007 in High's Chapel with Harry Green, Tim Miles and Jim Hunt officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the NHC Healthcare McMinnville Christmas Fund.
