Bone Cave, TN resident and Van Buren County, TN native Parker Hillis, age 73, was born May 22, 1933 and died January 19, 2007 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, TN following a sudden illness. A masonry worker, farmer, retired United States Air Force veteran of Korea and Vietnam and member of the Harmony Church of Christ, he was the son of the late James Irving and Maggie Hoyte Gillentine Hillis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Roy Lee Mitchell, Jr.; two brothers, Carl Irving and James Earl Hillis and sister, Juanita Hillis. He was married March 9, 1976 to Mayme L. Clark Hillis of Bone Cave, TN. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his former wife, Elaine Nelson of Manchester, TN; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karla and Ron Cochran of Bone Cave, TN and Phaedra and Terry Lancaster of Manchester, TN; two sons and daughters-in-law, Walter Stephen and Cindy Hillis of Manchester, TN and Earl and Christy Hillis of Winchester, TN; step-daughter, Amy McClusky of Bone Cave, TN; step-son and step-daughter-in-law, Mark and Trish Mitchell of Sparta, TN; son, James "Little Man" Anderson of Bone Cave, TN; sixteen grandchildren; sister, Vida Pearl Parker of Bone Cave, TN and three brothers, Johnny Melvin Hillis of Spencer, TN and Winslow Norton and Walter Leon Hillis both of Bone Cave, TN. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 22, 2007 in High's Chapel with Nestor Stewart, Dr. Ray Troop and Marion Ward officiating. Burial followed in the Crain Hill Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crain Hill Cemetery Fund.
