Altamont, TN resident and Grundy County, TN native Herschel Coy King, age 80, was born March 27, 1927 and died April 25, 2007 at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma, TN following an extended illness. A retired employee of General Motors, a United States Navy veteran of WWII and a member of the Non-Denominational Church, he was the son of the late Henry and Minnie Etta Sanders King. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Minnie Lee Scruggs King; two brothers, Corbett H. King and Ivan Loren King and three sisters, Ruby King, Florence Cummings, and Dorothy Sue King. He was married December 26, 1975 to Bertha Alice Johnson King of Altamont, TN. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Jerry King of Cleveland, OH, Ivan Dean King of the Rocky River Community, David Wayne King of McMinnville and Robert L. King of Cleveland, OH; daughter, Anna Faye Gugliemotto of Cleveland, OH; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosa Lee Greene of Woodbury, TN and Evalene Roberts of the Tarlton Community and brother, Nelson King of Morrison, TN. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2007 in High's Chapel with Charles "Cotton" Ross officiating. Burial followed in the Altamont Cemetery with full military honors administered by the American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064.
