SR., John Frederick SHANNON

McMinnville resident and Gastonia, NC native John Frederick Shannon, Sr., age 80, was born November 10, 1926 and died November 7, 2007 at his residence following an extended illness. A self-employed nurseryman, a United States Navy veteran of WWII and Korea and a member of the Pearls of Christ Church, he was the son of the late John H. and Matticia Withers Shannon. He is survived by one son, John Shannon, Jr. of New York; daughter, Karen Shannon of New York and sister, Jean Hall of Muncie, IN. Funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2007 in High's Chapel with William Wanamaker and George Roberts officiating. Burial followed in the Philadelphia Cemetery in Grundy County, TN with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.
