Muncie, IN resident and native Linda F. Akins, age 63, was born November 25, 1944 and died April 18, 2008 at her residence. A switchboard operator with First Merchants Bank and a member of the Westside Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Bertha Shirley Summers. Mrs. Akins grew up in McMinnville and was a graduate of Central High School. She was married to James Franklin Akins who was killed in Vietnam May 19, 1967. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Waymon Summers; step-mother, Jackie Akins and sister-in-law, Keiko Akins. She is survived by one daughter, Angie Akins of Muncie, IN; brother and sister-in-law, John and Bettie Summers of Muncie, IN; sister and brother-in-law, Reba and Leroy Walker of McMinnville; sister-in-law, Rosemary Summers of Chattanooga, TN; mother-in-law, and step-father-in-law, Helen and Randolph Newby of McMinnville; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Randie and Michael Parks of Ohio and Kim and Rusty Thrasher of New York; father-in-law, Frank Akins of Rockingham, NC; three brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Judy Akins of Rockingham, NC, Joe Frank Akins of Ft. Myers, FL and Kevin Akins of Myrtle Beach, SC; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sarah and Hal Kidd of Charlotte, NC; several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2008 in High's Chapel with Larry Reynolds and Mark Reynolds officiating. Burial followed in the Gardens of Memory.
