McMinnville resident and Warren County native Raymond N. "Ray" Barnes, age 83, was born July 19, 1925 and died November 29, 2008 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro, TN following an extended illness. The former owner of Gay-Lo Cafeteria, a Warren County Judicial Commissioner, a United States Army veteran of WWII and member of the Baptist Church, he was the son of the late James P. and Mary Jane Espy Barnes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven brothers, John, Jesse, George, Ernest, Ezra, Howard and Bill Barnes and five sisters, Dollie Carr, Hersie Elam, Elsie Barnes, Ruby Simmons and Hazel Adcock. He was married to Jean Lewis Barnes of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Ray and Ann Barnes of Murfreesboro, TN and Tommy and Patsy Barnes of Lebanon, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Mike Durham of McMinnville; four grandchildren, Lynn Martin of Spencer, TN, Dawn McCravy of Murfreesboro, TN, Chuck Barnes of Lascassas, TN and Melissa Barnes of Lebanon, TN; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2008 in High's Chapel with Andy Gay and Nestor Stewart officiating. Burial followed in the Trousdale Cemetery with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.
