McMinnville resident and Stokes County, NC native Johnny Jackson Britton, age 83, was born May 7, 1924 and died February 17, 2008 at his residence following an extended illness. A retired employee of Powermatic and a United States Army veteran of WWII, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Minnie Mabe Britton. He was married to Geneva Hobbs Britton who preceded him in death October 3, 2006. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ada Martin and brother, Jimmy Britton. He is survived by two sons, Mike Britton of Corbin, KY and Jerry Britton of McMinnville; two daughters, Barbara Hale of Manchester, TN and Beverly Rogers of McMinnville; five grandchildren, Jeff Rogers, Jeremy Britton and Clint Walker all of McMinnville and Shane and Brian Britton both of Kentucky and three great-grandchildren, Jeffery Rogers and Brian and Abbigail Britton. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2008 in High's Chapel with Danny Sullivan officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. View Cemetery with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.
