McMinnville resident and Warren County native Carl Gene Crawford, age 74, was born June 12, 1934 and died October 11, 2008 at his residence following a lingering illness. A carpenter and nurseryman, he was a United States Army veteran and was the son of the late Eugene and Bessie Kelley Crawford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Charlie, Billy, Kelley, M.L. and Marvin Crawford and two sisters, Lucille Moffitt and Ophia Ross. Mr. Crawford was a former minister at the New Union United Methodist Church, served as minister at the Shiloh United Methodist Church for the past seven years and was a member of the Warren County Laity. He was married December 24, 1956 to Bobbie Panter Crawford of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Hal Mayfield of McMinnville; son and daughter-in-law, David and Brenda Crawford of Newport, TN; grandchildren, Jake and Drew Crawford of Newport, TN and Madison and Gaines Mayfield of McMinnville; two brothers, Paul and James T. Crawford both of McMinnville; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Joe and Alta Faye Gribble of McMinnville. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 14, 2008 in High's Chapel with Wayne Simmons, David Grissom and Tim Lewis officiating. Burial followed in the New Union Cemetery.
