Smithville, TN resident and DeKalb County, TN native James Howard Curtis, age 82, was born December 29, 1925 and died January 7, 2008 at his residence. A retired employee of Carrier and a United States Navy veteran of WWII, he attended the Assembly of God. He was the son of the late William Thomas and Jody Era Driver Curtis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Rufene Dunham. He was married September 19, 1946 to Grovene Campbell Curtis of Smithville, TN. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James L. and Sharon Curtis of Smithville, TN; daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Willy Young of Smithville, TN; three grandchildren, Kevin Curtis and Tiffany Young both of Smithville, TN and Bryan Curtis of Marietta, GA; great-grandson, Coty Barr of Manchester, TN; two brothers, Alvie Thomas Curtis of Manchester, TN and George Curtis of McMinnville and sister, Gradie Dale Brown of Fayetteville, TN. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2008 in High's Chapel with Billy Campbell officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Zion Cemetery with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.
