McMinnville resident and Warren County native James Nuton Elkins, Sr., age 82, was born December 4, 1925 and died January 29, 2008 at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN following an extended illness. A forklift driver at Burroughs-Ross-Colville a United States Army veteran and a member of the Church of Christ, he was the son of the late James Franklin and Violet Johnson Elkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Ida Mae Harmon, Patsy Spalding, Jennie Bell Hoppye and Irene Muncey and brother, Robert E. Elkins. He was married May 24, 1947 to Ruby Pearl Green Elkins of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Dale Smith of McMinnville and Irene and Randall Fuston of Rock Island, TN; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Nancy Elkins, Jr. of McMinnville and Franklin and Ann Elkins of Manchester, TN; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Frankie Elrod of Manchester, TN, Annie Fults of McMinnville and Maggie Sartin of Detroit, MI; brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, Virgil and Bonnie Green of McMinnville and sister-in-law, Inez Pitman of McMinnville. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008 in High's Chapel with Richard Bowman officiating. Burial followed in the Salem Cemetery with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Memorial contributions may be made to or to the charity of your choice.
