McMinnville resident and Wilson County, TN native Robert Paul George, age 88, was born February 12, 1920 and died October 2, 2008 at River Park Hospital following a brief illness. A retired meat processor at local supermarkets and a United States Army veteran of WWII, he was affiliated with Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was the son of the late Willie Dayton George and Jessie Wooden George Turney. He was a member of the VFW Post 5064, American Legion Post 173 and Disabled American Veterans. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Willie Veach, Ruby Baker Taylor and Louise Dunn. He was married July 20, 1943 to his wife of sixty-five years, Doris Moore George of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children and their spouses, Jimmy and Emily George, Shirley Luna, Ronnie and Barbara Jane George and Billy and Connie George all of McMinnville; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Christy Luna, Justin and Mandee Luna, Clark George, Heather George, Chris and Carolina George, Susan George, Laura and Matt Vandiford and Allison George; three great-grandchildren, Thomas George, Lucy George and Bennett Luna and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 2008 in High's Chapel with Harry Green and Lanny Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the Liberty Cemetery with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Memorial contributions may be made to or .
