McMinnville resident and Warren County native Dot Gillis, age 80, was born December 19, 1927 and died October 27, 2008 at her residence following an extended illness. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and member of the First Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Hugh and Nannie Greene Van Hooser. She was married May 19, 1946 to Vernon E. "Beau" Gillis who preceded her in death October 3, 2005. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Van Gillis; two sisters, Elizabeth Short and Nannie Lee and two brothers, Nelson and Hugh Van Hooser, Jr. She is survived by three children and their spouses, Debbie and Jimmy Crafton of Murfreesboro, TN, Greg Gillis of McMinnville and Tammie and Jerry Wall of Rowlett, TX; seven grandchildren, Jessica Smith, Holden and Mackensey Gillis, Shayne and Toby McGiboney and Chad and Brooke Gillis; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Brady McGiboney; two sisters, Margaret White of McMinnville and Bet Farless of Huntsville, AL and brother, Bill Van Hooser of Chattanooga, TN. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2008 in High's Chapel.
