Jr., Robert Edward HARRIS

McMinnville resident and Grundy County, TN native Robert Edward Harris, Jr., age 83, was born February 24, 1925 and died August 17, 2008 at River Park Hospital following a sudden illness. A retired Tennessee Wildlife Resource Officer and a United States Army veteran of WWII, he was a member of Oakland Church of Christ where he served as an elder. He was the son of the late Robert Edward and Ella Ada Manley Harris, Sr. He was married to Pauline Williams Harris who preceded him in death January 17, 2000. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, Bonnell and Benny Ray Harris and sister, Ruth Yarworth. He is survived by three children and their spouses, Linda and Tolbert Gilley, Jr., Lillian Harris and Donnie and Rhonda Harris all of McMinnville; two grandchildren and their spouses, Toby and Laura Gilley of Murfreesboro, TN and Tiffany and Dean Cromwell of Sellersburg, IN; three great-grandchildren, Isabella and Grant Gilley of Murfreesboro, TN and Chloe Cromwell of Sellersburg, IN; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Roy Steiful of Tracy City, TN and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2008 in High's Chapel with Ernest Laws and Bobby Cloyd officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. View Cemetery with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.
