Hermitage, TN resident and San Antonio, TX native Samuel Russ Harris, III, age 79, was born September 25, 1928 and died May 6, 2008 at his residence following an extended illness. A retired engineer with Northwestern University and NASA, a United States Army veteran of Korea and member of the Episcopal Church, he was the son of the late Samuel Russ and Nancy Lee Talbot Harris, III. He was married to Juanita Ruth McDaniel Harris of Hermitage, TN. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Charles Shannon of Knoxville, TN; son, Russell Rhea Harris of Cookeville, TN; two grandchildren, Rachel Rhea Shannon of Knoxville, TN and Samantha Grace Harris of Hermitage, TN; four step-children and their spouses, Doris and Bob Barnett of Plano, TX, Gloria and Bill Crank of Hotchkiss, CO, Curtis and Barb Graeber of Crested Butte, CO and Marie and Dan Anderson of Itasca, IL; seven step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Nancy Potter Newby of Cookeville, TN and former wife, Robbie Harris of Brentwood, TN. A graveside service was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Mt. View Cemetery. Full military honors were administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.
