Wayne Coy PALMER

Rock Island, TN resident and Cherokee County, NC native Wayne Coy Palmer, age 82, was born September 5, 1925 and died July 8, 2008 at River Park Hospital following a sudden illness. A retired lumber grader at McMinnville Manufacturing Company, United States Navy veteran of WWII and member of the Mt. Elim Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher, he was the son of the late James and Amma Lee Sneed Palmer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Faye Maxey. He was married September 9, 1946 to Dortha Moore Palmer of Rock Island, TN. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two nephews, Eddie Scott and Freddie Scott both of Rock Island, TN; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother, Creed Palmer of Newtown, PA; sister, Dixie Palmer of Murphy, NC; half-sister, Barbara West of Andrew, SC and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service and interment was held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Long Cemetery with Willard Ralph, Jr. officiating. Full military honors were administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.
