James Louis SHOCKLEY

Spencer, TN resident and Van Buren County, TN native James Louis Shockley, age 78, was born October 30, 1929 and died October 7, 2008 at Cherokee Indian Reservation Hospital in Cherokee, NC following a sudden illness. A retired factory worker and farmer and member of the Piney Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Joe Wiley and Demie Martin Shockley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray, Thomas and Johnny Shockley and two sisters, Emma Lou Mealer and Janice Swindell. He was married August 8, 1948 to Lucille Simmons Shockley of Spencer, TN. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Larry Smotherman of Spencer, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Elizabeth Ann Shockley of Spencer, TN; two grandchildren, Libby Brager of Lavergne, TN and Marie Shockley of McMinnville; two great-grandchildren, Blake Bryant and Dalton Bryant both of Lavergne, TN; brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Ann McCormick Shockley of Spencer, TN; sisters and brother-in-law, Nellie Bickford of Rock Island, TN; Mamie and Ades Rice of Sparta, TN and Lorene Russell of Spencer, TN; sister-in-law, Elva Jean Carter of Spencer, TN; twenty-nine nieces and nephews and aunt, Virginia "Jennye" Moffitt of Spencer, TN. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2008 in High's Chapel with Gene Bray and Olan Mooneyham officiating. Burial followed in the Shockley Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN.
