Vervilla Community resident and DeKalb County native Joe C. Woodside, age 89, was born October 13, 1919 and died December 19, 2008 at his residence following a brief illness. A retired employee of Genesco and a farmer, a United States Army veteran of WWII and member of the Rockliff Church of Christ, he was the son of the late William T. and Mattie Crook Woodside. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Carl Woodside and two sisters, Inez Stacey and Mary Yturrino. He was married November 9, 1946 to Opal Joines Woodside of the Vervilla Community. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children and their spouses, Jerry and Carolyn Woodside, Terry and Jan Woodside and Patricia and Mike Bell all of the Vervilla Community and Joe Michael and Dorinda Woodside of McMinnville; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 21, 2008 with Jeff Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the Bascom Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to .
