McMinnville resident and Warren County native Alma Pauline Barnes, age 85, was born July 19, 1924 and died September 4, 2009 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following an extended illness. A homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late Jess and Grace Lee Fults Slaughter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Sherman Barnes; daughter, Wilma Rhea; sons, Edward and Lonnie Barnes; brothers, Hughey, J. E. and Leon Slaughter; sisters, Laura Smartt, Geneva Smartt and Lodema Slaughter and daughter-in-law, Delorise Barnes. She is survived by three daughters, Freda Hennessee of Murfreesboro, TN; Marie Caldwell of St. Louis, MO and Deborah Barnes of Murfreesboro, TN; three sons and daughters-in-law, Hugh and Roxanne Barnes, Terry and Offie Barnes and Charles and Debbie Barnes all of McMinnville; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; four sisters, Wilma Brock, Frances Butcher, Hallie Warren and Eva Nell Bess all of McMinnville; brother, Charles "Dud" Slaughter of McMinnville and son-in-law, Larry Rhea of McMinnville. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 6, 2009 in High's Chapel with Bill Eversole and Jeffery Hill officiating. Burial followed in the Philadelphia Cemetery.
