SR., Douglas Eugene BROOKS

McMinnville resident and Rome, GA native Douglas Eugene Brooks, Sr., age 69, was born December 26, 1939 and died May 19, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness. A heavy-equipment operator, United States Air Force veteran and member of New Hope Full Gospel Church, he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland and Roberta Irene Stanley Brooks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Brooks; brother, Jimmie Brooks and sister-in-law, Georgia Brooks. He was married April 11, 1992 to Selma Jean "Sam" Hickey Brooks of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children and their spouses, Sandy and Bruce Bush, Stanley Allen Brooks and Douglas Eugene Brooks, Jr. all of McMinnville; step-son, David Hickey of McMinnville; two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brother, Franklin Brooks of McMinnville; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Farris Young of McMinnville; aunt, Essie Hillis of McMinnville; sister-in-law, Betty Talbert of McMinnville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009 in High's Chapel with Terry Grissom officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. View Cemetery.
