McMinnville resident and Van Buren County, TN native John Bryant, age 89, was born November 28, 1919 and died March 4, 2009 at River Park Hospital following a six-month illness. A retired farmer, United States Navy veteran of WWII and member of the First Assembly of God, he was the son of the late Emmitt Alexander and Lou Ella Stroud Bryant. In addition to to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Arlis and Creed Bryant and two sisters, Cecile Hillis and Rita Bryant. He was married April 11, 1942 to Bobbie Hitchcock Bryant of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children and their spouses, John Windell and Teresa Bryant of Rock Hill, SC, Darlene and Joe Bright of Walling, TN, Garry and Janice Bryant of Bone Cave, TN and Dale Lane and Theresa Bryant of Hixson, TN; ten grandchildren, Kimberly, Johnny, Starlena, Cinzina, David, James, Alison, Charles, Nicholas and Katie; six great-grandchildren, L.J., Haley, Hannah, Levi, Madison and Bailey; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Joyce Bryant of Rock Island, TN; two sisters, Grace Cannon of McMinnville and Rose Laws of Chicago, IL and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2009 in High's Chapel with Sammy Lee and Roland Sharp officiating. Burial followed in the Laurel Creek Cemetery in Van Buren County, TN.
