McMinnville resident and Warren County native James Thelvin Crawford, age 87, was born May 9, 1921 and died January 20, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness. A retired employee of Powermatic, United States Army veteran of WWII and member of Shellsford Baptist Church, he was the son of the late Eugene and Bessie Kelley Crawford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Crawford and eight brothers and sisters, Charlie, Kelly, M.L., Marvin, Billy, Carl Gene, Ophie Ross Graham and Lucille Moffitt. He was married March 5, 1943 to Willene Butcher Crawford of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Linda Crawford of Smithville, TN and Tommy and Leisa Crawford of McMinnville; eight grandchildren, Tracy, Blake, Justin, Seth and Toby Crawford, Amy Seber, Kandi Barnes and Amanda McCracken; eleven great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Edward Crawford of McMinnville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2009 in High's Chapel with David Daugherty officiating. Burial followed in the Shellsford Cemetery with full military honors administered by the American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064.
