McMinnville resident and Tupelo, MS native Hansford Sylvester "Sonny" Fairchild, Jr., age 79, was born October 29, 1930 and died December 22, 2009 at River Park Hospital following a brief illness. A retired local businessman, owner of Woodcarver, and a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean war, he was the son of the late Hansford Sylvester Fairchild, Sr. and Evelyn Tate Fairchild. He was married on July 15, 1961 to Martha Wildman Fairchild. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Delores Fairchild of Huntsville, AL; son and daughter-in-law, Hansford and Christy Fairchild of McMinnville; two grandsons, Hansford S. "Ford" Fairchild, IV and Austin Fairchild both of McMinnville; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Bettie Fairchild of Shreveport, LA; sister, Margie Tyler of Murfreesboro, TN and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2009 in High's Chapel with family and friends officiating. Full military honors were administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 173 for the assistance of Veterans or Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.
