Helen Yula Guckel, 96, a resident of McMinnville, Tennessee, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2009. She was born December 4, 1912 in Queens, New York. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ernst Guckel. Mrs. Guckel moved from her Florida retirement home to McMinnville to be closer to family. She loved to dance and play bingo and was a member of the Congregational Church. Before retirement, Mrs. Guckel and her family lived in Newtown, CT from 1953 to 1974. Her husband was a mathematics teacher at high schools in Newtown and Danbury, CT. Mrs. Guckel worked at the Newtown Bee, the weekly newspaper serving the community. Surviving are two sons, Richard Guckel, and his wife, Suzi, of Grapevine, TX; Robert Guckel, and his wife, Izzy, of McMinnville, TN; and a daughter, Elaine Burfield, and her husband, Charles, of Westfield, NJ. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: William Guckel, Richard Guckel, Jennifer Porter, Ernst and Mark Guckel, and Caroline and Charles Burfield. Mrs. Guckel?s nine great-grandchildren are: Matthew, Katie, Adam, Amanda, Benjamin, Courtney, Samuel, Carrie and Samantha Rose Guckel.
