McMinnville resident and Cannon County, TN native James William "Bill" Hollis, age 69, was born October 15, 1939 and died May 3, 2009 at the St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN. A plumber and pipe fitter, a United States Air Force veteran and a deacon at the Philadelphia Baptist Church, he was the son of the late Arthur Sneed and Nona Aldena Lance Hollis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Dewey Frank, Sam Mack and A. J. Hollis. He is survived by his wife, Jennetta Hollis of McMinnville; daughter, Conethia Cantrell of McMinnville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jamie and Beverly Hollis of Murfreesboro, TN and Nick and Melissa Hollis of McMinnville; five grandchildren, Jonathan and Dana Hollis, Hillari and Brandon Hale, Erin Hollis, Madison Hollis and Haley Cantrell; three great-grandchildren, Justin and Holly Hollis and Claire Hale; sister, Eva Pemberton of Woodbury, TN. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2009 in High's Chapel with David Frazier, Barry Whiteaker, Wendell Judkins and Glyn Killian officiating. Burial followed in the Philadelphia Cemetery in Grundy County with full military honors administered by the Tennessee Army National Guard Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the Relay For Life.
