Murfreesboro, TN resident and Warren County native Professor Raymond Oakley Jennings, age 90, was born October 1, 1918 and died September 6, 2009 at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Murfreesboro, TN following an extended illness. Oakley graduated from George Peabody College, served in World War II in the European Theatre and was a retired Lt. Colonel in the Army Reserves. He taught school in McMinnville City Schools and taught Chemistry and Physics at Middle Tennessee State University, retiring as an Associate Professor in 1985. He was always positive and remained interested in everything in life. He will be truly missed by family and friends. He was the son of the late Aubrey and Azalene Davis Jennings. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Burley Jennings and sisters, Ann McNutt, Lela Mathis and Verna Jennings. He is survived by his wife, Jean Jennings of Murfreesboro, TN; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Christie Jennings of Murfreesboro, TN; three daughters and son-in-law, Ellyn and Mark Butler, Jan Parker and Chris Perkins all of Murfreesboro, TN; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, Truman Jennings of Murfreesboro, TN and sister, Nova Elliott of Elizabethton, TN. Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2009 in High's Chapel with Marion West officiating. Burial followed in the Riverside Cemetery.
