McMinnville resident and Jacksboro, TN native Dorothy Christine Owen, age 82, was born January 5, 1927 and died July 8, 2009 at River Park Hospital following a brief illness. A homemaker and member of the Temple Baptist Church, she was the daughter of the late George Alton and Cora Myrtice Brown Smoot. She was married to Warren Edward Owen who preceded her in death in December of 1969. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Shelah Woodrow Smoot, Rayford Ray Smoot and Alton Pascoe Smoot and two sisters, Georgia Neal and Willie Illileen. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, a life-member of the VFW, past-president of the Ladies Auxiliary and won Volunteer Of The Year at the Senior Center. She is survived by three sons and daughter-in-law, Campbell Wayne Winkler of Barstow, CA, Jerry Waymon and Louise Winkler of McMinnville and David Lynn Owen of Oakwood, GA; three grandchildren, Samantha Jo Winkler, Jerry Scott Winkler and Stacy Lynn Winkler; two great-grandchildren, Megan and Luke Winkler; four step-grandchildren, Lisa Seals, Karen Bouldin, Julie Hillis and Michael Boles; eleven step-great-grandchildren, one step-great-great-grandson and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009 in High's Chapel with Jim Tollison officiating. Burial followed in the Gardens of Memory.
