McMinnville resident and Warren County native Faye Locke Payne, age 92, was born April 2, 1917 and died August 9, 2009 at her residence. A retired teacher at the McMinnville area Vocational School and member of the First United Methodist, she was the daughter of the late Will and Sophie Williams Locke (original owners of Locke's 5&10). She was married to Lt. Colonel Otha Payne, retired who preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Tennessee Tech, an English instructor at a Chinese Language School in Taipei, Taiwan, recipient of the Special Mission Recognition at First United Methodist Church, served as treasurer of United Methodist Women, chairman of Circle One at First United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Captain Morford Locke and Major Wallace Locke. She is survived by one son, Jim Payne of Sarasota, FL; two daughters, Betty Turner of Smithville, TN and Susan Burrows and husband, Mike of McMinnville; brother, Howard Locke and wife, Louise of McMinnville; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at First United Methodist Church Historic Sanctuary with Dr. Steve Angus officiating. Burial followed in the Liberty Cemetery.
