McMinnville resident and DeKalb County, TN native Charles L. Prater, age 92, was born October 20, 1916 and died April 24, 2009 at River Park Hospital following a brief illness. A foreman with McMinnville Concrete Company for twenty-three years, a fork lift operator with Carrier for ten years, a United States Army veteran of WWII and member of the Christ United Methodist Church, he was the son of the late Jim Blane and Laura Ethel Young Prater. He was a member of the former Faulkner United Methodist Church. He was married to Pauline Neal Prater of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Bill Higginbotham of Rock Island, TN and Glyndia Dodson and Larry Bass of Southside, TN; son, Tim Prater of McMinnville; three grandchildren and their spouses and six great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Paul Densteadt (Joshua and Hannah), Jason and Melanie Dodson (Torri and Ella) and Holly and Lane Cantrell (Trey and Tucker); two sisters, Grace Starkey of Nashville, TN and Louise Underhill of Marshville, NC; brother, Bill Prater of McMinnville and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. A graveside service and interment was held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2009 at Mt. View Cemetery with Mark Carrigan officiating.
