McMinnville resident and DeKalb County, TN native James Otis Sandlin, age 86, was born May 25, 1923 and died December 16, 2009 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following a two-year illness. A retired employee of Burroughs-Ross-Colville, an auxiliary policeman through the Warren County Civil Defense and member of the Madison Street Baptist Church, he was the son of the late James Riley and Martha Pearl Estes Sandlin. He was married November 16, 1941 to Oleta McCaleb Sandlin of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children and their spouses, Louise and Jerry Winkler, David Sandlin and Phillip and Angie Sandlin all of McMinnville, Odis and June Sandlin of Rock Island, TN and Cathy and Keith Carpenter of Iowa; thirteen grandchildren and their spouses, Lisa Seals, Karen and Floyd Bouldin, Michael and Heather Boles, Paula and Chad Stotts, Kevin and Kim Sandlin, Ryan Aughinbaugh, Alan Sandlin and Jordan Sandlin all of McMinnville, Tyler Miller and Tabitha and Toby Meeks of Coalmont, TN, Keith Romans of Iowa, Julie Hillis of Rock Island, TN, and Meagan Sandlin of Fyffe, AL; two step-grandchildren, Scott and Lisa Winkler and Stacie Winkler of McMinnville; twenty-two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Madison Street Baptist Church with Bro. Carl Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Brick House Cemetery.
