Dowelltown, TN resident and Kidder, MO native Lt. Col. Kenneth Edward Short, age 77, was born November 10, 1931 and died November 2, 2009 at his residence following a brief illness. A retired Lt. Col. with the United States Army serving in Korea and Vietnam, he was the son of the late Joseph Lawrence and Lura Mabel Meloy Short. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, John Charles, Helen Virginia, Richard McClean, Robert Tinsley, Marjorie Joan and Kenneth Edward; step-son, Charles William Hollandsworth. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Jerry Campbell of McMinnville and Angela and Eric Beaty of McMinnville; one step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Katherine and Roger Lynn of McMinnville; two sons, Douglas Edward Short of Murfreesboro, TN and Kenneth Wayne Short of Dowelltown, TN; seven grandchildren, Leah Mullican, Casey Mullican, Douglas Short, Crystal Short, Michael Short, Morgan Brittney and Chelsea Beaty; four great-grandchildren, Hayley Alexis, Hannah Nicole, Ayden Christian and Harleigh; several nieces and nephews and former wife, Betty Powell Short. Graveside service was held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Friendship Cemetery with Ronnie Powell officiating. Full military honors were administered by the American Legion Post 173 and VFW Post 5064.
