Lucy J. SMITH

McMinnville resident and Greensboro, NC native Lucy J. Smith, age 87, was born February 14, 1922 and died May 14, 2009 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following an extended illness. The retired assistant superintendent with Lindley Nursery Company in Greensboro, NC and member of McMinnville First United Methodist Church, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Wynona E. Edwards Johnson. She was married May 5, 1940 to Charles Edward Smith who preceded her in death July 10, 1977. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Jeanette and Woody M. Davenport of McMinnville; son and daughter-in-law, Larry E. and Wanda Kay Smith of Cleveland, GA; grandchildren and their spouses, Rocky and Jane Davenport and Angela and Boyd Ramsey both of McMinnville and Sean Edward Smith, Brian K. Rich and Renee and Andrew Watkins all of Fernandina Beach, FL; great-grandchildren, Sarah Belle Ramsey of McMinnville and Jace Smith, Gage Watkins, Sean Michael Smith, A.J. Rich and Avana Rich all of Fernandina Beach, FL. A graveside service and interment was held Sunday, May 17, 2009 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro, NC. Memorial contributions may be made to The Good Neighbor Program at First United Methodist Church or Boyd Christian School c/o High Funeral Home.
