McMinnville resident and Palmer, TN native John Robert Turner, age 85, was born May 5, 1923 and died April 12, 2009 at River Park Hospital following an extended illness. A retired machinist at McMinnville Screw Machine, a United States Navy veteran of WWII and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at Altamont, he was the son of the late James and Eoda Bess Turner. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Leona Knight and Dorothy Doak and brother, Willie Turner. He is survived by his wife of forty seven years, Stella Mae Lockhart Turner of McMinnville; five daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda Lawrence, Linda and Latton Bell, Lequita and Gene Maxwell and Nancy and Greg Ray all of McMinnville and Brenda and Earl David Campbell of Altamont, TN; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clayborn and Sue Turner of Altamont, TN and Junior and Sue Turner of Sedalia, MO; twelve grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at Altamont, TN with Jody Campbell officiating. Burial followed in the Altamont Cemetery in Grundy County, TN.
