McMinnville resident and Overton County, TN native David J. M. Winningham, Sr., age 61, was born March 5, 1948 and died July 5, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness. A security guard with Oster Corporation, a U.S. Army veteran and member of the Baptist Church, he was the son of the late Haskell and Mahala Veachel Sevier Winningham. He was married May 30, 1975 to Jewell Thaxton Winningham of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son and daughter-in-law, David Winningham, Jr. and Jamie of McMinnville; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn Winningham and Jeremiah Wells of McMinnville; three grandchildren, Hunter Glen Winningham, Delvin Joe Wells, and Briley Austin Wells; adopted granddaughter, Alexis Jade Wells; two brothers and sister-in-law, Dallas and Marty Winningham of Indianapolis, IN and Carvel Winningham of Livingston, TN and three sisters, Kathleen Smith of Livingston, TN, Florene Smith of Livingston, TN and Adorene Hodge of Billings, MT. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2009 in High's Chapel with Tim Long officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Zion Cemetery.
