McMinnville resident and Warren County native Billie Austin Atnip, age 83, was born July 17, 1927 and died August 26, 2010 at NHC Healthcare McMinnville following an extended illness. A retired mechanic with Pacific Inner Mountain Express and United States Army veteran of WWII and Korea, he was the son of the late Herman T. and Nanny Crim Atnip. He was a member of the VFW Post 5064, American Legion Post 173 and Live Oak Masonic Lodge in Oakland, CA. He was married to Elizabeth Daphine Bell Atnip who preceded him in death November 26, 2005. He is survived by one daughter, Chris Atnip of McMinnville; son, Jim Atnip of McMinnville; two sisters, Hattie Bard of Pennsylvania and Virginia Martin of California; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Copeland and Sheila Bell both of McMinnville; several nieces, nephews and cousins and special friend, Carolyn Barnhill of McMinnville. A graveside service and interment was held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2010 at Gardens of Memory with Tommy Lusk officiating. Full military honors were administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173 as well as Masonic Graveside Rites by Warren Masonic Lodge #125 F&AM.
