McMinnville resident and Giles County, TN native Sam J. Brannon, age 86, died January 20, 2010 at the Alvin C. York V.A. Medical Center in Murfreesboro, TN following an extended illness. A masonry contractor, United States Army veteran of WWII, member of VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173 and member of the Baptist Church, he was the son of the late Sam and Fannie Escue Brannon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ava Voss, Alene Cruise and Lois and two brothers, Daniel and Edward Brannon. He is survived by one daughter, Lorene Hinson of Greenbrier, TN; grandson, Tim Hinson of Cross Plains, TN; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Louise Cliff of Etheridge, TN; several nieces and nephews and good friends, Carolyn Doak, Dinky Doak and Collin Panter all of McMinnville. Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2010 in High's Chapel with Robert Wright officiating. Burial followed in the Gardens of Memory with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.
