McMinnville resident and Huntsville, AL native Newman Houston Cantrell, Sr., age 81, was born January 5, 1929 and died March 9, 2010 at DeKalb Community Hospital in Smithville, TN following an extended illness. A retired mechanic with General Equipment Company and member of the Church of Christ, he was the son of the late Hall Houston and Zula May Hill Cantrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, William Cantrell; sisters, Peggy Jo Morton, Mary Ruth Tenpenny and Elsie Cantrell and son-in-law, Bryson Adams. He was married May 23, 1945 to Dorothy Pepper Cantrell of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Jerri Ann Adams and Teresa and Henry Johnson both of McMinnville; son and daughter-in-law, Newman Houston and Kari Cantrell, Jr. of McMinnville; grandchildren, Bryson Lee Adams, Jr. and wife Janie, Courtney Lynn Johnson, Houston Blake Cantrell, Baylee Ashton Fults and Karlee Ann Cantrell all of McMinnville; great-grandchildren, Chandler Lee Adams, Hunter Lee Adams, Haile West, Cailyn Hillis, Aspen Tai and Maddox Rayne Adams all of McMinnville; sister, Sarah Baker of Tullahoma, TN and brother and sister-in-law, J.W. and Jean Cantrell of McMinnville. Funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2010 in High's Chapel with Bro. Carl Smith and Randy Griffith officiating. Burial followed in the Corinth Cemetery in DeKalb County, TN.
