George Munro HOLLAND

McMinnville resident and Warren County native George Munro Holland, age 88, was born April 7, 1921 and died February 28, 2010 at Alvin C. York V.A. Medical Center in Murfreesboro, TN. A grocery store owner and United States Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, he was the son of the late Claude M. and Ethel Jewell Walker Holland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Chester Holland; two sisters, Mattie Thompson and Ruby Byrd and great-grandson, Anthony Brian Nelson. He was married to Semone "Monnie" Holland of McMinnville. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Roxann Holland of McMinnville; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Tammy and Bob Ried, Jackie Holland Hawkins, Jamie and Heath Griffith, Jack and Lori Holland, II, George Christopher Holland and Kenny and Jessica Campbell all of McMinnville, Dana Holland of Smithville, TN and Jeannie Nelson of Birmingham, AL; ten great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, and sisters-in-law, Doris and Myrtle Holland and Ronald and Katherine Holland both of McMinnville, Donald and Nerlene Holland of Eagleville, TN and Earl and Ruth Holland of Lavergne, TN; three sisters, Annie Burgabe and Joyce Whiteaker both of McMinnville and Johnnie Maxwell of Springfield, TN and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010 in High's Chapel with George Roberts officiating. Burial followed in the Shellsford Cemetery with full military honors administered by the VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.
